Sable Antelope Bull

Hippotragus niger

A very handsome scimitar horned antelope, the Sable Bull is highly prized. Both males and females carry horns, but it is usually only the male, which after about 3 to 5 years, becomes jet black. The females are usually a paler brown and slightly smaller. A large male can reach 250 Kg with horns up to 65” long (165cm). They inhabit wooded savannah and bush in East Africa south of Kenya, and in Southern Africa.

Sable Antelope Bull taxidermy

  • This Sable antelope is presented as a shoulder mount.
  • The mount is looking to your left (its right).
  • This presentation is necessary with a wall shoulder mount as the horns going back way behind the shoulder dictate that the head must be turned to its hard left or right.
  • No shield, inscription.

This presentation whilst practical is neither aesthetically pleasing nor natural. A Sable is hard won and very costly and, in the authors opinion, deserves the best presentation which in this case, assuming a full mount is out of the question, is undoubtedly a floor pedestal mount.

THIS MOUNT IS A COMMISSIONED PIECE AND IS NOT FOR SALE.
