Bushpig

Bushpig (Potamochoerus larvatus)

Common throughout southern and eastern South Africa, Bushpigs are mainly nocturnal. They can get to over 120 Kg. Large specimens, if provoked or surprised in thick cover, can be dangerous. Like other large pigs they have powerful and sharp tusks.

In commercial agricultural crop areas, particularly where predators have been taken out to protect stock or where hunting does not occur, they can be a severe pest, moving in large groups. Being omnivorous, they will eat just about anything they can dig up or find.

Bushpig taxidermy

  • This Bushpig is mounted as an offset shoulder mount.
  • The animal here is a medium sized male.
  • Mouth closed.

Some clients opt for a full mount of a bushpig, though, in our view, one requires considerable space and, unless displayed high up, one only sees the top of the back and the head due to their natural shape and head down in the soil habits. A free standing floor pedestal can be more effective in displaying these handsome chaps and showing them off to the best advantage. It is also more cost effective being less costly than the full mount with its associated base.

THIS MOUNT IS A COMMISSIONED PIECE AND IS NOT FOR SALE.
